The ADU Model Plans Library is now open!
Visit the website at: Flagstaff ADU Model Plans Library to view the winning designs, now available for purchase. Designers and architects participated in a model plan competition to help create our library. More than 30 plans were submitted and reviewed by a committee made up of community members and City staff. They selected 10 designs to be included in the Model Plan Library.
What is an ADU Model Plan Library?
An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a second and complete living space. ADUs are often called backyard homes, casitas, cottage homes or carriage homes. These small homes can provide additional housing for the Flagstaff Community, supplemental income to homeowners, off the potential for improved social connections for residents, and provide more flexible housing options.
The Flagstaff Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Model Plans Library is a resource for the Flagstaff community to learn more about ADUs and plan for building an ADU in the future. The library contains pre-approved model Plans for detached ADUs that can be purchased from the designer to build on your property.
ADUs are important to Flagstaff's 10-year Housing Plan and Carbon Neutrality Plan because they can increase Flagstaff's housing supply and can be built in existing neighborhoods with access to existing infrastructure and transportation networks. The ADU Model Plan Library is intended to lower the barriers to constructing an ADU in Flagstaff by:
- Reducing the cost to design an ADU
- Making it easier to find an ADU Designer
- Making the design and permitting process simpler and easier to navigate
- Providing access to lower City permitting fees for model plans (compared to custom plans).
